Sense of Entitlement
Hey everyone... I know I only post once a week, truth is I should actually be studying right now but I just visited a VERY frustrating page on Facebook that really pissed me off. Unfortunately I cannot mention this person's name on my blog, as I'm a law student & I know the risks of getting sued. BUT I can refer you to the page so you can read it yourselves (http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/SunetteBridges?fref=ts).
So I have to get something off my mind & there's something I really need to ask. Why is it that so many South Africans (Black, white, indian, colored) think that the country owes them s***? Why is it that so many South Africans (Again I'm talking to EVERY RACE GROUP! Just to be sure I'll say it again. Black, white, indian, colored) only see what is wrong with our country? Why is it that they're SOOOOOOOO quick to complain yet very slow to do anything about it?
Here's the thing I see, the people (Especially you so called 'educated' ones) make the country, the country does not make you.
Let me explain what I mean. The major ethnic group in SA is the black population, so with that said it is reported that 88% (If I'm not mistaken) of crime committed in SA is done by the blacks. 88%!!!! WOW! That's an alarming statistic right? Uh WRONG!
South Africa is a nation of diversity, with nearly 52-million people and a wide variety of cultures, languages and religious beliefs.
According to Census 2011, the country's population stands at 51.77-million, up from the census 2001 count of 44.8-million.
Africans are in the majority, making up 79.2% of the population; coloured and white people each make up 8.9% of the total; and the Indian/Asian population 2.5%. "Other" population group makes up 0.5% of the total

So with those given facts doesn't it only make sense that the majority of the people would be the ones who end up performing the crime? Think about it. If you take 100 sheep, & in that flock of sheep 79.2% of the sheep are black, while grazing won't it only make sense that the majority of the grass eaten was eaten by the black sheep? It's not that the other sheep didn't eat (just like it's not like other ethnic groups don't commit crimes for those who aren't following me) it's just that there were more black sheep out there (hence, more AFRICANS... This is AFRICA after all).
BUT!
That does NOT define every black person as a menace to society! It does not define me, my family, my people AS CRIMINALS!
Yes, we are black, yes we are so damn proud of it, & yes our people have let us down (Even let the nation down). But it makes me sick to my stomach when someone who could make a difference (by showing their 13 thousand followers the beauty of the nation they've grown up in, the new age of South Africans of every race group banding together to make a difference) decides to sit behind a laptop/iPad/PC/Cell Phone & take their time to bash, insult & ridicule the country. And do you know what's even more funny? Those people who follow such bickery with confidence, but yet are so cowardly that they write comments like "Hierdie Kaffers is die uitvoer van ons stad tot op die grond". Because you want to know what's funny about their feeble minded comments?
Now don't get me wrong people. I too get PISSED when I read about crime. Especially because I've been mugged before, I've been assaulted & my fam has had one of our cars stolen. So I do share the pain of many South Africans (No matter the ethnicity). But the difference is that I see the beauty in this nation. Instead of BITCHING & MOANING, I celebrate the clear blue skies. The incident free soccer & rugby games (even during a rivalry), the different languages, (Ek se vir julle, ek ook kan afrikaans praat. Ke kgona go bowa setswana <--- Man I Hope I said that right), the food (Go'damn South Africans can cook!), the warm people (I've never had someone not smile back at me if I smiled at them), the fact that we have such a diverse community, the fact that unlike Europe, our economy is not that bad. It could be better, but we're not headed for an economic meltdown.
So please people (Again, not mentioning anyone specifically, just saying in general), instead of feeling like the country owes us s*** why don't we follow the examples of Ghandi & fight for a greater SA? Why don't we "Be The Change We Want To See"? After all we are 1 Nation.
I think it was the great Lion King, Simba, who once said "We Are One". Yes I just referenced a cartoon, you're lying to yourself if you say that it didn't form a great part of your childhood. Come on, tell the truth.
People like to ask me, "Joe, why are you so fascinated by the USA?" Well that answer is simple; despite their high crime rate, their fluctuating economy, their race issues, their extremely weird morals, there's 1 thing every American thinks. EVERY American thinks they live in the greatest country in the world. They'd FIGHT for their countries honor NO MATTER WHAT! That to me, is something admirable.
Now For The Blacks (Not all, just the self entitled ones):
Whether you like it or not, caucasian people form part of SA, they are South Africans & I (as well as many others) happen to like them. Yes there are some who are heavily racist, some who are closet racists & some who just want to keep to their own race for some reason, big whoop. There ae also some who love SA & every part of it. Saw some at a soccer game the other day blowing a vuvuzela (Say whaaaat! That's what's up).
They are your equals. It's in the Constitution. Go read Chapter 2 of the Constitution if you don't believe me. So they have just as much of a right to be here & to be called South African as any of you. Again, the country don't owe you s***. You want something, go get it. Don't be bickering about how whites are still richer than us, get over it & go get yours!
So let's all just stop with pointing the finger, band together & actually do something about it. Be the change we want to see.
If I may steal something from Obama: "we are not a white South Africa, we are not a black South Africa. WE ARE ONE SOUTH AFRICA"
(Yeah, it sounded cooler when he said it about the United States)
